About
version for mixed choir 1972. Dubrovnik Summer Festival, RTZ Choir, conductor: Igor Kuljerić
Program notes
The composition was written in memory of Ivan Lukačić (1574-1648) as an expression of respect for one of the founders of the Croatian musical tradition, an artist whose work and spiritual horizon at that time was truly in line with "advanced stylistic aspirations" (quote from the Preface to Selected Motets). The motives are taken from Lukačić's motet Quam pulchra es as a kind of “objet sonore “ using layers and experiment with its elements for the development. This use aspired to a deeper relationship and connection with one's own creative sources. The conductor's role goes beyond standard: he must pay primary attention to the definitive modeling of the composition, while also using unconventional conducting technique. The score has a special addition of comprehensive and detailed instructions for performance, since the score itself is a synthesis and a simplified general picture of the complex sound event.
